Hello, I figure you're getting swamped with comments but I just wanted to ask if you could, more or less, present a case for the methods you support in a post, via your blogs or reddit. I am a fairly young atheist, and a pastors son. I disagree with my dad, but love him anyway. Spitting in his face and calling his entire reason for being a lie is not going to get him to listen, and even if it did, I would hate that even if I have all the proof. Surely we shouldn't play into the hand of the religious either. I know how the institution works, regardless of which religion you are a part of, you are told the enemy is in the bushes waiting to ravage you. Leaping out and attacking just powers the propaganda hate machine. I am new to this, so I am willing to admit I may be wrong, but I struggle to see this movement as constructive.
I am not advocating that you insult your father or that anyone insult a theist just because they are theists.
People are entitled to whatever beliefs they wish and frankly I'd fight to defend them up to that point.This does not mean that I have to share those beliefs or even respect them. At that point I usually resort to attempts to demonstrate that the logic is flawed, but as that often fails I attempt humorous ridicule. (as to how effective that is I leave to you)
What I will not defend and actively oppose is when it intrudes into the public sphere, when irrational claims are used to create legislation and to oppress. You don't get to tell others how to live based on a multi thousand year old delusion.
